Iron Horse 20ml
Description
IRONHORSE® is an injectable solution based on iron saccharate, considered as antianemic, for equine use.
FORMULA: Each mL contains:
Iron Saccharate equivalent to 20 mg of elemental Iron
Vehicle qbp 1 mL.
INDICATIONS: IRONHORSE® is used in the treatment of anemic processes in horses due to iron deficiency. It is also used in pre-anemic syndrome; it improves the performance of competition horses, since it acts as an element of cellular oxygenation Indicated before and after surgery, to stimulate appetite and during the breeding season, both in stallions and females. It can be used in the preparation of competition horses.
MECHANISM OF ACTION: When IRONHORSE® is injected, it is broken down into carbohydrates and trivalent iron hydroxide which is stored as ferritin (deposit iron) in the liver, from where it is transported in the form of transferrin at the site of erythropoiesis (where red blood cells are formed).
DOSAGE:
Colts after weaning: 20 mL.
Horses between 200 and 400 kg: 20 mL every third day (4-6 times) up to a total of 80 to 120 mL.
Horses 400 kg or more: 20 mL per day for 10 days or 50 mL every third day for four times, up to a total of 200 mL.
Duration of treatment will depend on hemoglobin level, body requirements and clinical response of the animal.
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION: Slow intravenous only. The method of administration may be by slow intravenous injection directly into the 1 Ligands are ions or molecules that surround a metal, forming a metal complex. A ligand bound to a central ion is said to be coordinated to the ion jugular vein or by mixing the contents of one vial (20mL) with 500 mL of sterile physiological saline solution slowly.
At the time of administration the solution should have a temperature above 15°C
Before administering the first therapeutic dose, a slow intravenous test injection is recommended to check tolerance. If no reactions are observed, the full dose can be administered within 15 minutes.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: The use of IRONHORSE® is contraindicated in cases of:
Hypersensitivity to the active substance.
Anemias not caused by iron deficiency.
Hemochromatosis and/or hemosiderosis.
Hepatic or renal pathologies, asthma and/or chronic progressive polyarthritis.
If the horse consumes oral iron through a supplement.
Given the high susceptibility of newborns to the effects of exogenously administered iron, it is not recommended to administer the drug in the first days of life.
